chris-and-i-4.jpgOn my birthday, just a couple weeks ago now, my friend wrote,

“It’s your special day and you are at one of the best ages that exist (in my humble opinion, 28 is just the most fantastic age!) May your year be crowned with bounty and cause to sing for joy!”

My father wrote,

“28 is a great time of life. I hope you love every minute of it!”

And my father-in-law wrote,

“I hope you have a great day and a prosperous year. Maybe this year will be the year to see your dreams come true. I am praying that it will!”

Lot’s of exclamation points. It’s common to receive well-wishing on one’s birthday, but this birthday’s blessing trifecta struck me as particularly pointed because I often hamper Joy. So that’s the goal, this 28th year, that is apparently prone to wonderfulness, to seek Joy, that wallflower in my life, and ask her to dance. But a fast dance, like to Billy Jean by Michael Jackson, in which case Joy looks like my sister, because it always brings me much joy dancing with her to that song.

My husband bought me a computer for my birthday, my first ever computer–yes, at 28. He said he hoped that it would open me up creatively–”write screenplays or blogs or whatever.” Him saying that was the best part of the present, to have a husband who, despite our many differences, understands me and wants what I want for myself.

So, here it is, the beginning of this story and the beginning of me sharing my stories with the world wide web. My friend Kym said that she would read all the Harry Potter books if I started a blog. You wouldn’t think Joy should be so hard to come by when I have these people around me.
